Wineries of Cypus

Despite its long history in viticulture and winemaking, Cyprus had until 1983 only four major wineries, ETKO, KEO, LOEL and SODAP, all of which were located in Limassol.

In 1984, the winery of Chrysoroyiatissa Monastery in Paphos reopened its doors under its old name Monte Roya.

Later, in 1988, I. P. Gaia Oenotechnia in Ayios Ambrosios in the Limassol district and Pekris Winery in Yeroskipou in the Paphos district were established.

This was followed by the establishment, in 1989, of 10 other regional wineries, including Ayia Mavri, Vouni Panayias and Tsiakkas.

Since then, the development of regional wineries in Cyprus has been continuous. Today, there are 64 registered regional wineries on the island.
