WINE – AROMA OF CYPRUS

On Sunday, June 19, from 6 pm to 10 pm, the Cyprus Oinophiles Club awaits wine lovers in the square of the old port of Limassol, for an intoxicating journey of aromas and flavors with tastings of Cypriot wines.

Under the title WINE – AROMA OF CYPRUS and under the auspices of the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Nikos Nicolaidis and the support of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Cyprus Ports Authority, 25 wineries prove to us once again that Cyprus has made great leaps in recent years in the field of quality wine.

Visitors will have the opportunity to taste the award-winning wines of the 13th Cyprus Wine Competition, held in May 2022, as well as many more, old and new labels of our wineries, from aromatic whites, strong reds and sweet commandarias and moscatas.

They will be able to chat with the producers, oenologists or even winemakers and exchange opinions and experiences with them.

They will also have the opportunity to see live and learn how Zivania is made and all its secrets, the art of tasting, the correct way to serve wines as well as the basic principles of wine-food pairing.

A feast of colors, aromas and flavors, the most modern that Cypriot winemaking has to show today, will be on Sunday, June 19, 2022 in the square of the old port of Limassol.

MASTERCLASS: IMPORTANCE OF GLASS SHAPE IN WINE ENJOYMENT

SPRING THREE DAY EXCURSION IN THE AREA OF CHRYSOCHOUS CITY

A spring wine trip to the seaside area of ​​Polis Chrysochous, is organized by the Cyprus Oinophiles Association, during the three days from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th March, with visits to various wineries and events in the wider area of ​​Paphos district.

ANNUAL ORDINARY GENERAL MEETING

The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Oinophiles Group and in accordance with article 18 (a) of the Statute, invites all its Members to an Annual Regular General Meeting and to a General Meeting for the election of a new Board of Directors, on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Poseidonia Beach Hotel in Limassol.

PRESENTATION ON THE TOPIC: “THE GRAND VARIETY GIANNOUDI – THE VINEYARD, THE WINE AND ITS PROSPECTS”

Within the framework of the Wine Festival 2021, our Group is co-organizing with the Municipality of Limassol, an event with the theme:

“The native variety Giannoudi – The vineyard, the wine and its prospects”.

The event will take place on Thursday, October 14 at 19:00 at the Patticheio Historical Archive and Study Center, located on the north-east side of the Municipal Garden of Limassol (Vyronos 5, former residence of the Eparchus).

The presenters of the topic will be Mr. Sofocles Vlasidis, Orestis Tsiakkas and Markos Zambartas, renowned Cypriot oenologists/winemakers with experience in the production and vinification of the Giannoudi variety.

During the event, all the prescribed protection measures against the coronavirus will be observed and a safe pass will be required.

AFTERNOON VISIT TO THE INO ESTATE – ZANATZIA

Our Group will be hosted at the Ino – Zanatzia Estate, by the Hatzipavlou family, which is the 6th generation of winemakers, on Saturday October 16 at 18:00, where we will have the opportunity to get to know the vineyards and taste the wines of the Olympos winery accompanied by a rich buffet.

Before and during the dinner, Mrs. Olvia Hatzipavlou will talk to us about the philosophy of the Estate and the oenologist Mr. Santiago Martinez Polo will present us the wines and the perspectives as prescribed in the 21st century.

Weather permitting, the dinner will take place outdoors, next to the vineyards, otherwise it will take place inside the estate.

The Ino – Zanatzia estate of the Hadzipavlou family, first operated in 1844, where the ETKO winery was founded and housed for many years. Over the years and due to the intense export activity, around the middle of the 20th century, the winery was moved to Limassol where it continued to operate, until 1992. A milestone year, since the company began to develop modern vineyards and the modern Winery Olympos, in the village of Omodos, where today, all vinification and processing takes place.

In the Estate, the Cabernet Sauvignon variety was planted in 1975 and in 1979 the first, numbered, bottling of the variety with the name “INO” was made. A very remarkable wine, by the standards of that time.

During the visit, all approved health protocols will be followed and travel to the site will be done with our own means of transport.

START OF A NEW SERIES OF WINE KNOWLEDGE – TASTING COURSES

A new series of Wine-Tasting courses in person, starts on Tuesday, October 19, organized by the Cyprus Wine Lovers Club, in Limassol (it will follow in Nicosia).

There are very few places left, so if you are interested, make sure to book as soon as possible.

The instructors of the courses are Mr. Markos Zambartas, Chemist – Oenologist and Mr. Haris Stylianidis, Certified Sommelier. The lessons will be held at Kava Oinodos, located at 3B Elenis Paleologina Street, in the city center.

At the end of the courses, after an examination, you can obtain the Wine Connoisseur Certificate from the Cyprus Certification Company (KEP).

AFTERNOON VISIT TO THE YASKOURI WINERY

Summer has arrived for good and after the reduction of the measures against the corona virus, we slowly returned to our previous life. Thus, the Cyprus Wine Lovers Association started planning its next activities.

After our Annual General Meeting which was quite successful, our next event will be in the afternoon and we will visit the Yaskouri winery located in Pachna and then we will have dinner in a local tavern.

Notes

(a) According to the Statute (Article 12.a) each Member – excluding Honorary Members – has the obligation to pay the registration fee once and to pay their annual subscription as they wished to be determined by virtue of Article 4 of the Statute.

(b) According to the Articles of Association (Article 18.c) a quorum for a General Assembly is present if half plus one (1/2 + 1) Members are present, entitled to receive notice of the General Assembly and to vote and who have fulfilled the their financial obligations to the Association.

(c) According to the Statute (Article 18.d) if at the appointed time there is no quorum, the Assembly is adjourned in the case of Ordinary and Extraordinary Assembly for half an hour, in the case of a Statutory Assembly for the same day and time of the following week, so as many members attend constitute a quorum, provided that it will not be less than 1/3 of the Members who have settled their financial obligations to the Association.

(e) According to the Statute (Article 18.f) in each Assembly only the issues of the agenda are discussed. A member is entitled to request the discussion of another matter, if he has submitted a written request to the Board of Directors at least three days before the General Assembly.

(f) In accordance with the Statute (Article 20.a) without affecting the provisions of provision 11(e), the decisions of the General Assemblies other than the Statutory Assembly, are taken by a simple majority of the Members Present.

After the success of our last online presentation on the topic of organic wines, we continue our educational presentations, on Tuesday, March 23 at 19:00, this time with Mallias Winery – KEO Estate.

During the presentation, Mr. Dimitris Antoniou, Oenologist and Director of KEO Wineries and Timotheus Boyas, Agronomist of Mallias Winery. We will have the opportunity to learn about the Mallias Winery, with a special emphasis on their wines from native varieties of Cyprus.
